What do you think makes someone a southern gentleman/southern belle?

I have been studying archetypes and the concept of the southern gentleman and the southern belle are prevalent in both film and literature, what qualities do you think a man or woman possesses to suit these stereotypes?|||They are true to high principles. They will not be a part of gossiping. They will feel insulted by a bribe or any other invitation to behave badly.

The movie "Gone With The Wind" gives a perfect example of it in the characters Ashley Wilkes and his wife Melanie.|||It is simply a matter of good manners and a friendly attitude. Hospitality and courteous treatment are still highly regarded and practiced in the South.

I'm from California, so I think my viewpoint is fairly non-biased. If you want a real education, try calling different regions of the country, call people at random and ask your question directly. I believe that folks in the South are more likely to talk with you, will take your question seriously, and will respond in a polite and friendly manner.
