Can belle from beauty and the beast be black?

ok, so i want to try out for belle, from beauty and the beast and i am african american. i really think i can do a good job at playing her. i have a pretty voice and have been taking acting lessons for 3 years. i go to a predominantly white school so i'd be the only black girl trying out for belle. so my quiestion is, do you think race will play a factor? and do you have any tips on how to get it?|||I think race might play a factor, depending on who is doing the casting. I believe Toni Braxton played Belle for awhile on Broadway. You should go for it, no matter what! You can at least say that you tried your best. Break a leg!|||anything can be possible if ur heart believes !!!!!!!!!!!!|||I dont see why u couldnt play her, the story isnt about color its about love.|||It shouldn't matter. Give it your best shot and hopefully they'll recognize your talent. Good luck.|||Yes, Race will be a factor (Maybe, depends on the person in charge.), I'm not being rude though. But there is a chance if you do extra good, It just might work! and why are you in school still?! It's summer break %26gt;.%26lt; I would hate to see you not get the part because you are black, that's just not right =/|||I agree. If you are prepared and want to do this part, then try out for it. i don't see why you wouldn't get it.|||It shouldn't be a factor. Go out there and do your best. If people seriously have a problem with it, try to explain and work it out with them. I don't think anyone would give you trouble, unless they're so racist that they can't stand it. But sometimes people like that aren't worth your time.|||Absolutely, I have seen a production where she was black. Belle means beauty, beauty is found in ALL colors|||Of course you can :`)

Good luck :D|||no, belle could be black. if you perform really well then they will cast you. it won't matter if you're black or white, as long as you're good you can do it|||Surprisingly disney would pick the Caucasian type of person for a caucasian role but if u are great or better than any other person who has tried out for belle than you would most definitely get the part. (you did have 3 years of acting classes don't you)|||Go for it. Do your best. If you are better than everyone else you might just make it. However, don't be discouraged if you don't. yes, it is can be a matter of race--not because anyone is racist, but it depends on what the casting director thinks would be best for the play and the audience. It is hugely unfair to do it this way, and I think who is deserves the part should get it. I too am black and it has happened to me. Hopefully the casting person will be fair and choose the person who deserves the job. But...sometimes that doesn't happen. But do the very best you can anyway and good luck!|||Race doesn't matter! Actually i just saw a professional productions where belle was black and her dad was really white. As long as you have the talent i don't see a problem

The only tip i would give you is that if you are auditioning just for belle then as soon as you walk into that audition room become belle act like her when you sing act or dance

i hope you get the part =)|||Toni Braxton played Belle on Broadway!|||It depends on the person in charge. But this might play to your advantage, in the show Belle is supposed to be different from everyone else. And Toni Braxton played Belle on Broadway and she is black. If you try your hardest I am sure you will get it!
